plankton appeared in the lower Miocene, in order to give those prissy molluscs (see upper Pliocene) something to wig out about (hint: what would be MOLLUSC ACNE?). originating in the southwest basin of the sahara, they quickly developed advanced communications networks and won a series of international football competitions. from there they branched out into the communications industry. they remain a power to this day, and are a founding partner in Verizon, inc. once secure (but still busy) in the communications industry, they launched into the music industry, contracting Max Martin to a string of commercially successful pop tunes (britney spears, avril lavigne). rumor has it they are also now involved in american politics (hint: REAGAN WAS THE BETA PROGRAM)
